Community Center Reservations

Reservation Procedures

Reservations for the Community Center will be taken at the DeWitt Fitness Center (900 14^th St). Reservations must be made in person and are accepted on a first-come basis. Reservations can only be made up to one year in advance. All rental fees are due when the reservation is made. Deposits are due when the key is picked up.  Deposits need to be in the form of a check.  The Community Center is located at 512 10th Street, DeWitt, IA 52742.

Rooms

Large Room— This meeting room is large enough to accommodate up to 200 people in classroom seating and 120 people with tables set up. The room is 52' x 58' (3,016 sq ft) with no obstructions.  This room has 20 tables and 200 chairs.  10 tables are to be left up after each rental.

Small Room— This meeting room holds up to 24 people in classroom seating. The room is 20' x 39' (780 sq ft). The small room can be partitioned off into two even smaller rooms. This room has 4 tables and 24 chairs.

Kitchen— The kitchen facility has been recently upgraded. It is not a full-service kitchen. Equipment includes stove, 2 refrigerators, sinks and counter space. The kitchen is 600 sq ft.
The Community Center has complete restroom facilities, a large coat rack, a piano and public address system.

Keys

Groups are responsible for unlocking and locking the Center for their rentals.  Keys for the Center are to be picked up at the DeWitt Fitness Center on the day of your rental.  Keys are to be returned at the conclusion of the rental.  Groups will be assessed a $20.00 charge for lost or stolen keys.  Keys must be picked up on day of reservation unless the DeWitt Parks & Recreation office hours do not allow it.  No exceptions.  Setting up for your event the day prior requires renting the room on the day prior.
 

Damage / Cleanup Deposit

A $100.00 deposit will be required for all rentals payable at the time the key is picked up.  All groups are required to clean up when the rental is complete and deposit trash in the outside dumpster.  Staff will mop floors and disinfect facilities as needed.  The deposit will be returned, if the building is left clean and undamaged, within 30 days.  If the Center is damaged the party signing the rental agreement and the group using the building shall be responsible for the reasonable cost of repair.
 

Alcohol Rules & Regulations

1. Beer, wine, and champagne are the only alcoholic beverages permitted in the DeWitt Community Center.   
2. The only use of alcoholic beverages permitted by the City of DeWitt, are those activities for which an alcohol permit has been accepted and approved for alcohol use.
3. No hard liquor is allowed under any circumstances.
4. Containers must be less than 32 oz. (e.g. kegs are not permitted).
5. The sale of alcohol is prohibited.
6. Possession, use, and consumption permitted only in the DeWitt Community Center during rentals approved for alcohol consumption.
7. The renter is responsible that all those consuming alcohol are of legal age (21 minimum).  In the State or Iowa, it is illegal for those under the age of 21 to possess or consume alcoholic beverages. It is illegal to provide alcoholic beverages to anyone under 21 or to anyone (regardless of age) who is visibly intoxicated.
8. Community Center rentals requesting an alcohol permit will be required to leave a separate $250 deposit for an alcohol permit.  The deposit will be returned if the facility is left clean and orderly.  The $250 deposit will be withheld if left substandard.
9. In a rental involving an alcohol permit, the city does not assume the liability insurance.  The renter assumes all liability (e.g. someone getting hurt from consumption of beer) usually on their homeowners’ insurance.
10. The renter must provide the City of DeWitt a certificate of insurance from their liability carrier for no less than $500,000.
11. The facility renter must be at least 21 years of age to request an alcohol permit for the DeWitt Community Center.  A photocopy of a valid driver’s license is required.
